Squirrel Nutkin joins in…

In portraying the Story of Squirrel Nutkin we take a little more inspiration from the classics as did Fredrick Ashton and John Lanchberry when they choreographed and composed the ballet for the Royal Ballet Theater.  The music from Squirrel Nutkin was based on a variation of Don Quixote first composed by Ludwig Minkus for the ballet in 1869.  So to portray the lively and daring squirrel we will study the original choreography by M. Petipas for Cupid from the dream sequence.

If you think this unreasonable… try this for inspiration!

Now see how this was transformed for the Royal Ballet in 1971…

We have decided yet another classical variation was needed for this story.  What character from The Story of Squirrel Nutkin would you think this beautiful variation from Raymonda best suits?

The following version of Cupid from the Kirov is our favorite!  You need to watch a little while until the solo, but it is worth the wait!
